I am currently the CEO of ZIOPHARM Oncology, a cancer drug development biotech company based out of New York and Boston. One of the lead drugs we are developing (Zymafos / Palifosfamide) is being developed in soft tissue sarcoma. This is a small molecule that works in a similar way to ifosfamide, with hopefully better efficacy and less toxicity.
After completing my Kristen Carr Fellowship, I remained at MSKCC on the GMT service. My focus was sarcoma. I also did research both in the clinic and the lab. When I was offered a position in biotech, it was an extraordinarily difficult decision to leave patient care and Dr. Brennan. I still follow some patients (some now > 10 years NED), and Dr. Brennan and I still follow each other. We work together on several professional levels, and I am pleased to report that I am still learning from the “Boss”.
I am happily married to Nanci after 18 years, and blessed with 3 beautiful daughters. This undoubtedly has been my greatest achievement.
