Meet the 2025-2026 Surgical Oncology Fellow Ace St. John, MD

Ace St. John, MD | Kristen Ann Carr Fund Surgical Oncology Fellow

Ace St. John, MD, is a first-year Surgical Oncology Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with a clinical interest in sarcoma. He earned a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; a medical degree from Dartmouth School of Medicine; and a master’s degree in clinical research (epidemiology/biostatistics) from the University of Maryland. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, serving as Education Chief Resident and Administrative Chief Resident, and pursued dedicated research training as a T32 Cancer Biology Postdoctoral Fellow in the John A. Olson Laboratory and as a Surgical Education Research Fellow with the Association for Surgical Education. Dr. St. John’s work integrates clinical epidemiology and advanced analytics to study tumor biology, perioperative risk, and equitable cancer care, including funded scholarship in AI-enabled surgical risk stratification aimed at improving decision-making and outcomes for patients.

Current Research

As the Kristen Ann Carr Fellow, Dr. St. John’s research is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with sarcoma through both translational science and clinical investigation. In myxofibrosarcoma and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, he is working with colleagues to better define the genetic and molecular features that drive these tumors, with the goal of identifying targets for new therapies and improving how we stratify risk. In liposarcoma, he is part of a clinical trial effort examining how CDK4/6 inhibition alters tumor metabolism, and whether this vulnerability can be paired with other targeted or metabolic agents to create more effective treatment strategies. Both projects reflect a collaborative commitment across laboratories and clinical teams to advance the field of sarcoma and bring meaningful progress to patients and their families.
